Rico de Jeer started playing bass guitar at the age of 17. In 1988 he bought his first double bass while on holiday in Hungary. In 1991 he quit his studies at the Rijks Universiteit Groningen and auditioned at the Hilversums Conservatorium, from which he graduated in 1998. Among his teachers were bassists Arnold Dooyeweerd, Koos Serierse, Rob Langerijs, Ruud Ouwehand, Ernst Glerum and Edward Mebius.
His current activities include playing and recording with several bands such as are the Stefan Schöler Trio (Germany / The Netherlands) and the Jazz ExTempore Orchestra, a pan-European collaboration. He also teaches bass guitar and double bass at Globe CKC Hilversum.
